This talk takes a pragmatic look at Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for data centers.  In what scenarios is it practical to employ?  For what applications is it a bit more of stretch?   In addition to reviewing traditional (commercial) CFD usage, we consider the pros and cons of faster and simpler CFD techniques such as potential flow modeling and fast fluid dynamics.  Finally, we look at some recent and diverse research that is making CFD for data centers even more practical: server and rack thermal mass modeling, accurate tile airflow measurement, and raised-floor stanchion modeling.
