In order to optimize their need for a sustainable design, data center owners often choose cooling systems that minimize their sites’ use of energy. Historically, water consumption has taken a back seat in importance toward achieving these goals. However, recent water shortages in many parts of the country have started to tip the balance toward giving primary consideration to water consumption ahead of energy consumption. This presentation will address a way of creating an equivalence between the two such that informed decisions can be made to select appropriate, optimized, and sustainable cooling systems based on the multitude of factors that need to be considered.
